WHAT IS CLIMB & CONVENTIONAL MILLING

Climb milling and conventional milling are two different types of milling operations used in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining.

Climb milling is a type of milling operation where the cutting tool rotates in the same direction as the workpiece is being fed into the machine. This means that the cutting edge of the tool bites into the material at first, resulting in a smooth and clean cut. Climb milling is known for its ability to remove material quickly, and it is commonly used in roughing operations.

Conventional milling, on the other hand, is a milling operation where the cutting tool rotates against the direction of the workpiece feed. This means that the cutting edge of the tool cuts into the material after the tool has pushed the material away, resulting in a slightly rougher cut. Conventional milling is typically used for finishing operations or for materials that are difficult to machine.
